Baseball Field Construction

Baseball field construction requires many design considerations. The field itself requires proper drainage in order for the baseball field to perform properly. In terms of clay placement and the types of clay, there are several options available for the infield. You can have a full skinned infield or a grass infield that will include clay running paths and a larger clay arc between first and third bases.

Player and spectator protection needs to be a priority in the design process. For players, the dugout system is used. This also provides space for the players to gather and to keep their equipment. The dugouts also provide a space that can be fenced off to protect the players.

Spectators will also need a place to gather and sit. Bleachers are typically supplied with all constructed baseball fields. A fence should be constructed in front of the bleachers to protect the spectators from foul balls. Backstops come in a wide variety of styles to meet all different levels of players and budgets. Backstops can either have a hood or not. The backstop style also depends on the area of the field and what is surrounding the foul ball areas.

Depending on the age and skill level of the player, baseball fields can have different measurements for the bases and pitching mound. There are many different field configurations to accommodate girls and boys, from tee ball up to college level. With the use of portable pitcher mounds and removable bases, a single field can easily change to accommodate several age and skill levels. This is very helpful if space is limited.
